Understanding Vernon Parish Releases
“Released” describes the end of one agency’s physical custody. It does not always mean a person went home. A Vernon Parish Jail booking may end with release on bond, completion of time served, dismissal, or another court order. It may also end with a transfer to another parish, Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections custody, the U.S. Marshals Service, or immigration custody. The jail’s release sheet and the receiving agency’s intake record distinguish those outcomes.
Legal status can continue after the jail door closes. Parole means part of a prison sentence is served in the community under the applicable supervision rules. Probation is ordered by a court and may occur without a prison term. Discharge means the corrections authority has recorded the end of the sentence or supervision at issue. “Time served” is a court disposition crediting custody already completed. These terms point to different records, so one label should not be substituted for another.
A name disappearing from the Vernon roster does not prove community release. Ask the jail for the release disposition and destination.
Vernon Parish Release Types
The recorded disposition determines where a person should appear next. Parish records document the end of the local booking. Court minutes explain the legal order. State, federal, and immigration locators cover only their own custody systems. The following distinctions keep a Vernon Parish release search tied to the right source.
| Release type | Meaning | Next verification point |
|---|---|---|
| Bond | Custody ends after the approved bond process and any other holds clear. | Jail release sheet and court bond entry |
| Time served or sentence complete | The court or custodian credits the required local term as complete. | Jail disposition and court minutes |
| Dismissal or court order | One case no longer supplies authority to hold the person. | Signed order or minutes, plus the jail record |
| Parole or probation | The person may be in the community while legal supervision continues. | Louisiana VINE result and Leesville P&P |
| Transfer | Vernon custody ends, but another agency assumes custody. | Sending release destination and receiving intake |
A transfer is not a community release. This matters when a Vernon Parish inmate is committed to DPS&C yet remains in a local bed, or when another agency collects the person after the local booking ends. Describe both legal custody and physical location when the records support that distinction.
Verify Vernon Parish Bond Release
No current official Vernon Parish bond schedule was found. Louisiana Code of Criminal Procedure Article 315 allows district and city courts to establish, distribute, and revise schedules, but it does not state the bond for a specific defendant. An old chart cannot show whether a court changed the amount or whether another warrant, sentence, or detainer blocks release.
Call the jail or the court assigned to the case and ask for the current person-specific bond. After bond is posted, confirm that physical release processing finished. Bond-out is a release into the community only when no other custody authority remains. If the release sheet names another agency or destination, the event was a transfer despite the end of the Vernon booking.
Note: A listed bond amount does not guarantee an immediate exit because processing and separate holds may still apply.
Vernon Parish Release Record Fields
The Vernon Parish Sheriff has not published a complete online release-record field list. A narrow request should tie the release to the public booking baseline in Article 228. That booking book includes the person’s name and address, property taken, booking date and time, charges, arresting officer, a short factual summary, and related arrestees. Release fields should be requested rather than assumed.
| Requested field | What it can show |
|---|---|
| Booking number and dates | Which Vernon custody event the response concerns |
| Release date and time | When the jail recorded the end of physical custody |
| Release disposition | Bond, time served, court action, transfer, or another recorded outcome |
| Destination or receiving agency | Whether custody continued elsewhere |
| Charge, bond, and case number | The court matter connected to the booking |
| Booking photograph | An image from the booking if it is publicly releasable |
The release time answers the physical-custody question. Court minutes answer what judicial act authorized the change. Neither record alone proves that every other case or hold ended. Compare the name, date of birth, booking number, and case number to avoid combining two people with similar names.
Request Vernon Parish Release Records
No dedicated VPSO request form, local copy fee, or fixed production time was verified. First contact the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office at 337-238-1311 and ask which office receives jail public-record requests. The jail is listed at 203 South Third Street, Leesville, with 337-238-7232. Sheriff administration is listed separately at 1203 South Fourth Street. Call before an in-person visit so the request reaches the custodian rather than the wrong building.
- Give the person’s full name, date of birth if known, and a narrow booking date range.
- Ask for the booking and release sheet, recorded release date and time, disposition, destination, charge, bond status, case number, and releasable booking photo.
- Request electronic copies and a cost estimate before fees are incurred.
- Ask for the legal basis for any withheld field and the expected availability date.
- Compare the response with the correct Vernon court file and any receiving-agency record.
Louisiana law treats several response duties separately. Immediately available public records should be presented at once. When a record is in active use, R.S. 44:33 calls for written certification and a day and hour for access within three days, excluding weekends and legal holidays. If public status is questioned, R.S. 44:32 requires a written determination and legal basis within five excluded-day business days. These rules do not promise that every request will be produced in one fixed period.
The DPS&C public-information page shows the separate route for a state discharge record.
That state route should be used only when DPS&C held legal custody. It does not replace a Vernon Parish Jail release sheet.
Vernon Parish Release Record Law
R.S. 44:1 broadly defines Louisiana public records, while R.S. 44:31 places the burden of proving an exemption on the custodian. Article 228 gives direct public status to the booking book and its booking-information summary. Specific protections may still apply to juvenile, sealed, expunged, investigative, medical, or security-sensitive material.
DPS&C records have a more specific rule. Full prison, presentence, and pre-parole files are confidential, but R.S. 15:574.12(G)(1)(a) permits release of specified disposition and incarceration facts, including the discharge date. Ask for that public exception rather than a complete prison file.
The state retention rule is not an online-search promise. R.S. 44:36(E) requires adult DPS&C records to remain at least six years after full-term expiration or six years after death, whichever occurs first. No Vernon live-roster retention period was found. Expungement removes qualifying arrest and disposition material from public access but does not destroy the record under Articles 972 and 973.
Search Vernon Parish Released Inmates
Start with the system tied to the last known custody. A current roster result supports present parish incarceration as reported by that roster. A missing result does not supply a release date or disposition. Work outward from the known booking and corroborate the event.
- Search the Vernon LAVNS roster for current parish custody and note the update time.
- Register for a custody-change notice from the matching image and check Louisiana VINE for the reporting agency and status.
- Call the jail and request the booking and release sheet when the name drops off.
- Match the release to 30th JDC, Vernon Parish Clerk, or Leesville City Court records.
- Switch to DPS&C for a state sentence, BOP for a federal sentence, or ICE for a relevant immigration handoff.
The process is evidence-based. Record the time and source for each result. A court may issue an order before jail staff complete processing, and VINE may update after the facility transmits data. The custodial log is the better source for the actual exit time, while the signed order or court minute is the better source for legal authority.
Why Vernon Releases Leave Rosters
Vernon’s official endpoint describes its population as “incarcerated offenders.” It offers Show All and A–Z filters, an offender count, a Central Time update stamp, images, and anonymous custody-change registration. Research found no released tab, 24-hour archive, 72-hour archive, release-date field, or published post-release retention rule.
A dropped listing is therefore a lead, not a conclusion. The person may have gone home, entered supervision, transferred to another parish, moved into state legal custody, or become subject to a federal or immigration handoff. The dedicated Vernon Parish 24-hour release list page explains the same-day fallback when no official recent-release feed exists.
The roster states that it is not an official document. Use the jail release record for formal confirmation.
Louisiana Release Search for Vernon
Louisiana uses LAVNS through VINE for public prison and community-supervision searches. Search by location, name, or an ID or case number where available. A prison facility indicates continued physical custody. A probation or parole result can show community supervision after custody, but probation alone does not prove a prior prison release.
| Field or route | Use | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Name | Find a possible state or supervision match | Compare identity details and namesakes |
| ID or case number | Narrow the result to a known person | Only works when the correct identifier is known |
| Facility or community status | Separate prison custody from supervision | Does not explain the old Vernon booking by itself |
| Telephone locator | Provides custody placement, projected date, and P&P office when applicable | Projected date is not actual release |
| Discharge-date request | Confirms a historical state discharge | Must be framed around the public statutory exception |
Call the DPS&C automated locator at 225-383-4580 with the DPS&C number or the person’s name and date of birth. It may provide the custody placement, facility contact, projected release date, and assigned P&P office. A recent sentence may not yet have a calculated date because official court paperwork has not been processed.
The statutory state discharge-date exception remains useful when an older result is no longer online.
The law supports a focused records request, not public access to the entire prison file.
Vernon Release Transportation Options
Vernon Parish Public Transit is a parishwide demand-response service for the general public. It is not a jail shuttle. The Louisiana DOTD provider profile lists weekday service from 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., a 337-239-4361 contact number, and different fares inside and outside Leesville.
A released person or family should call ahead. The service does not promise an unplanned pickup at the jail. No official Vernon source reviewed publishes a family waiting area, property-return process, fixed release hour, or weekend practice. Ask the jail for current exit and property instructions rather than relying on a projected time.
Vernon Release Court Record Paths
Vernon has a split court route. The 30th Judicial District Court and Vernon Parish Clerk of Court handle state district matters, while Leesville City Court handles municipal cases and directs some records questions to Leesville Police. A “no record” response from the wrong court does not prove that no release-related order exists.
The 30th JDC contact page and Vernon Parish Clerk route district matters. Ask for the docket sheet or minutes, disposition, sentence, commitment, bond or release order, and later sentence-related orders. For a city booking, begin with the arresting agency and Leesville City Court.
The official Clerk site supplies the local disposition and copy route.
Court records explain authority for release, while the custodian’s record shows when physical custody ended.
Check Vernon Post-Release Supervision
The Leesville District Office of Probation and Parole serves Vernon and Beauregard Parishes. It is the local route for determining whether that office is the correct supervision district and what status can be publicly verified. No separate official Louisiana public name list for all parolees was found.
Check VINE for a community-supervision result, then call the Leesville office at 337-238-6427 with accurate identifying information. A parole certificate requires reporting to P&P no later than 48 hours after release and further reporting as ordered. The office’s role makes it an important corroboration point, but parole is not the same as full discharge and probation does not always follow incarceration.
Federal and Immigration Release Checks
No BOP prison or ICE detention center was verified inside Vernon Parish. These locators belong in the fallback path when a case or release destination points outside parish custody. The BOP Inmate Locator can show a federal release date and “Released” or “Not in BOP Custody.” That result ends only the BOP custody question. It does not rule out state custody, immigration custody, or federal supervision.
ICE’s locator covers current detainees and some people released within the last 60 days. It is not a permanent archive. An immigration detainer asks the jail to notify ICE and may support added custody for up to 48 hours so DHS can assume custody. The request does not prove pickup. If pickup occurs, the Vernon booking ends by transfer, not by release into the community.
The official BOP locator interface illustrates the distinct federal record route.
Use it only when federal custody is supported by the case or the sending agency’s record.
Compare Vernon Release Search Results
Each system answers a limited custody question. The strongest conclusion comes from matching the person and event across the relevant sources, not from treating a single missing name as proof.
| Source | What it supports | What it cannot prove |
|---|---|---|
| Vernon live roster | Currently reported parish incarceration | Why a former listing disappeared |
| Jail release sheet | Recorded end time and disposition for the booking | That no other agency took custody |
| Court minutes | Legal order, disposition, sentence, or commitment | The exact physical exit time |
| DPS&C or P&P | State custody, projected date, supervision, or public discharge facts | Municipal or federal custody |
| BOP or ICE | Federal-custody or recent immigration-custody facts | Release from every other system |
Vernon Release Facility Status Conflict
Vernon Correctional Facility has a material conflict in official sources. A Vernon Parish Sheriff audit says the former work-release facility closed on March 31, 2018. The current DPS&C Vernon directory omits it. Yet a March 2025 Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement publication lists the facility at 2294 Slagle Road.
Do not assume that the old facility is active, and do not treat its closure as evidence that each person held there was released. People may have transferred. The facility’s page records the conflict and routes historical questions to VPSO or DPS&C as appropriate. Direct phone verification is necessary before relying on the listed address or any present service.
Vernon Parish Release Facilities
Three local facility records require separate handling. Vernon Parish Jail is the primary active parish facility, so current custody begins with its LAVNS roster and release confirmation comes from the jail record. Leesville City Jail is a municipal short-term booking room without a separate public roster; ask LPD whether the person left city custody or transferred to the parish jail. Vernon Correctional Facility is historical or unverified and must not be described as active without direct confirmation.
